CORE SERVICES

Ultrasound

Private ultrasound appointments in Fulwood, Preston for abdominal, pelvic, musculoskeletal and soft-tissue concerns, with clear reporting and follow-up pathways.

Ultrasound

What we offer

Ultrasound uses sound waves to create images of the inside of the body. It does not use ionising radiation, which makes it a useful investigation for many soft-tissue, abdominal, pelvic and musculoskeletal concerns.

At Elixier Diagnostics, ultrasound appointments are carried out using advanced equipment in a calm clinical environment. Your scan will be performed and reported through an appropriate clinical pathway. Where required, reports are reviewed by a Consultant Radiologist or another suitably qualified reporting clinician.

Some ultrasound scans require a referral or clinical triage before booking. This helps make sure the right examination is performed and that urgent or unsuitable cases are directed to the safest pathway.

Why you may need this service

• Abdominal symptoms, such as gallbladder, liver, kidney or urinary concerns
• Pelvic or gynaecological assessment where clinically appropriate
• Musculoskeletal problems such as tendon, soft-tissue, joint or lump assessment
• Soft-tissue swelling, hernia-type symptoms or superficial lumps
• Follow-up where a clinician has requested ultrasound to answer a specific question

Your appointment guide

Before you book

Please tell us the body area and reason for the scan. If you have a referral letter or previous imaging report, upload or bring it with you. Some requests may be reviewed before we confirm the appointment. Our in-house GP can also provide referral where required and relevant.

How to prepare

• Wear comfortable clothing that allows access to the area being scanned.
• For some abdominal scans, you may be asked not to eat for a period before the scan.
• For some pelvic, urinary or bladder scans, you may be asked to attend with a full bladder.
• Tell us if you need extra time, mobility support, interpreter support or a chaperone.

At the appointment

We will confirm your identity and the area to be scanned. You may be asked to lie on an examination couch. A small amount of gel is placed on the skin and the probe is moved over the area. Some pressure may be needed and may feel uncomfortable if the area is already tender.

How long it takes

Most ultrasound appointments take around 15 to 30 minutes, although more complex scans may take longer.

Results and next steps

Your images are reviewed and a report is returned securely to you and/or your referrer, depending on the pathway. If an urgent finding is identified, we will follow our urgent results process and contact you or the appropriate clinician.
