Blood Tests and Phlebotomy

What we offer

Blood tests can help screen for, diagnose or monitor a wide range of health conditions. They are most useful when chosen for a clear reason and interpreted alongside your symptoms, medical history and examination findings.

professional selected blood testing pathways and phlebotomy services (where needed). Depending on the test, results may be available through point-of-care testing or sent to an accredited laboratory for analysis.

Blood tests alone do not provide a complete diagnosis. Where results are abnormal, borderline or unexpected, a clinician may recommend repeat testing, GP review, imaging, referral or urgent assessment depending on the result and your symptoms.

Why you may need this service

• Routine health checks and baseline blood panels
• Specific blood panels requested by a clinician
• Monitoring of known conditions where appropriate
• Vitamin, iron, thyroid, metabolic, cholesterol or inflammation-related checks where clinically appropriate

Your appointment guide

Before you book

Choose the blood test or panel you need, or book a GP consultation first if you are unsure. Some tests require a clinician request or review before they are appropriate.

How to prepare

• Some blood tests require fasting; please follow the preparation instructions for your specific panel.
• Drink water unless you have been told otherwise.
• Tell us if you take blood-thinning medication, have a history of fainting, needle anxiety, difficult veins or previous problems with blood tests.
• Bring any request form, referral or test code if the blood test has been requested by another clinician.

At the appointment

We will confirm your identity and the tests requested. A trained member of staff will take the blood sample, usually from a vein in your arm. Samples are labelled after identity checks and handled according to the correct test pathway.

How long it takes

Most phlebotomy appointments take around 10 to 15 minutes, although additional time may be needed for complex panels, difficult veins or patients who feel faint.

Results and next steps

Turnaround times depend on the test and whether it is point-of-care or laboratory-based. Results are returned securely. Clinically urgent results are escalated and abnormal results should be reviewed in the right clinical context.
