CORE SERVICES

Dental CBCT (3D Dental CT)

High-resolution dental CBCT imaging in Fulwood, Preston for implant planning, jaw assessment and dental referral pathways.

Dental CBCT (3D Dental CT)

What we offer

Dental CBCT, also known as 3D Dental CT, uses a cone-shaped X-ray beam to create detailed three-dimensional images of the teeth, jaws and surrounding structures. It is often used when standard dental X-rays are not enough for the clinical question.

CBCT can support implant planning, oral surgery planning, assessment of impacted teeth, jaw or tooth anatomy, and selected dental or maxillofacial concerns where a referring dentist or clinician needs a three-dimensional view.

Because CBCT uses more radiation than a standard dental X-ray, it must be clinically justified. We use appropriate field-of-view selection and radiation safety checks to keep exposure as low as reasonably practicable while achieving useful images.

Why you may need this service

• Dental implant planning
• Assessment of impacted teeth or complex tooth position
• Jaw, tooth root or nerve pathway assessment where 3D detail is needed
• Selected endodontic, oral surgery, orthodontic or maxillofacial referral questions
• Referral from a dentist, oral surgeon, orthodontist or other appropriately entitled clinician

Your appointment guide

Before you book

You will usually need a referral from a dentist or suitably qualified clinician. The referral should explain the clinical question, area to be scanned and whether a radiology report is required.

How to prepare

• Bring or upload your referral details.
• Remove removable metal items around the head and neck, such as jewellery, piercings, dentures, hearing aids or hair clips where requested.
• Tell us if you are pregnant or may be pregnant.
• Tell us if you have difficulty standing or keeping still so we can assess suitability before the appointment.

At the appointment

We will confirm your identity, referral details and the area to be scanned. You will be positioned carefully and asked to keep still while the machine rotates around your head. The scan itself is quick, but preparation and positioning take longer than the exposure.

How long it takes

Most dental CBCT appointments take around 15 to 30 minutes including identity checks, positioning and image review.

Results and next steps

Images and, where requested, a report will be returned securely to your referrer. Your referrer will usually discuss treatment planning and next steps with you.
