CORE SERVICES

X-Ray

Digital X-ray appointments in Fulwood, Preston for bones, joints and chest imaging, with Consultant Radiologist reporting and safety checks.

X-Ray

What we offer

X-ray is a quick imaging test that uses a small amount of ionising radiation to produce images of bones, joints, the chest and selected other body areas. It can help clinicians assess fractures, arthritis, infection and some other conditions.

At Elixier Diagnostics, X-ray requests are checked for clinical suitability before exposure. The examination must be justified and authorised, the correct patient and body area must be confirmed, and pregnancy safety checks are completed where relevant.

Your images are reported by a Consultant Radiologist and returned securely through the agreed results pathway.

Why you may need this service

• Suspected fracture or bone injury
• Joint pain, arthritis or degenerative change where X-ray is appropriate
• Chest X-ray where clinically indicated
• Follow-up requested by a GP, consultant, physiotherapist or other appropriate referrer
• Pre-referral or pre-treatment imaging where clinically justified

Your appointment guide

Before you book

You will usually need a referral or clinical request explaining why the X-ray is needed. Please provide any previous imaging or relevant clinical information if available. Our in-house GP can also provide referral where required and relevant.

How to prepare

• Wear clothing without metal around the area being imaged, where possible.
• You may be asked to remove jewellery, belts, zips, bras with metal clips or other items that could affect the image.
• Tell us before the appointment if you are pregnant, may be pregnant, or have had recent imaging for the same problem.
• Tell us if you need mobility support or may have difficulty standing, lying down or holding a position.

At the appointment

We will confirm your identity using three identifiers and check the requested examination, body part and side. You may be asked to stand, sit or lie in a specific position. The exposure itself is usually very quick, but positioning and safety checks take a few minutes.

How long it takes

Most X-ray appointments take around 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the body part and number of views required.
